8Teeenlead Project

The 8teenlead Project, organized by Build Greenies Learning Hub, is an initiative designed to empower secondary school students across Nigeria by encouraging them to engage critically with their environment. Through this project, we aim to build future leaders who are passionate about positive change by fostering a sense of community development and empowering students to voice their opinions on pertinent issues. This year's competition builds upon the success of the previous events, aiming to further cultivate leadership, public speaking skills, and a proactive mindset among Nigerian youths.

Duration: Minimum 3 mins, maximum 5 mins. 
Camera Use: Any camera is acceptable; ensure a plain background and well-lit environment.
Dress Code: Students must be neatly dressed; wearing school uniforms is recommended.
Start/End Timing: Start speaking 3 seconds after starting the camera; end the video 3 seconds after finishing the speech.
5.Submission: Upload the video to Google Drive and send the link, ensuring the video setting is not private.

Prizes and Recognition

  1. Top 10: Sponsorship for NECO exams, plus academic mentorship.
  2. Top 5: Sponsorship for UTME (JAMB), in addition to the top 10 benefits.
  3. Top 3: Sponsorship for WAEC exams, plus all rewards given to others.
  4. Runner-Up: ₦20,000, and all rewards given to others.
  5. Winner: ₦25,000 and all rewards given to other participants.

All participants will receive a Build Greenies Learning Hub certificate of participation. Exceptional participants will also receive special awards and recognitions.

Implementation Plan

  1. Launch (June 19, 2024):Announce the competition and distribute guidelines to secondary schools across Nigeria.
  2. Submission Period (June 19 – July 17, 2024):Students create and submit their video presentations.
  3. Review (July 18 – July 31, 2024):A panel of judges will review and evaluate submissions based on criteria such as content relevance, creativity, clarity, and impact.
  4. Award Ceremony (August 9, 2024):Announce winners and distribute prizes during our leadership seminar.

Judging Criteria Explained

1. Assessment of Student Submissions (70%)

2. Video Engagement on YouTube (30%)

Relevance to the Chosen Topic – 20%

1.Explanation: This criterion assesses how well your video addresses the topic you selected. Ensure you stay on point and cover the main ideas related to your chosen topic.
2.How to Score Well: Stick to the topic, provide clear and relevant information, and make sure every part of your video connects back to the topic.

Originality and Creativity – 20%

1.Explanation: This looks at how unique and innovative your presentation is. It's about bringing fresh ideas and a personal touch to your video.
2.How to Score Well: Think outside the box. Present your ideas in an interesting and engaging way, and try to show your personality and unique perspective.

Clarity of Expression and Coherence – 15%

1.Explanation: This measures how clearly and logically you present your ideas. Your video should be easy to follow, with a clear structure and smooth flow from one point to the next.
2.How to Score Well: Speak clearly, organize your thoughts logically, and ensure your video has a clear beginning, middle, and end. Practice your speech to avoid mumbling or stumbling over words.

Practicality and Feasibility of Ideas Proposed – 15%

1.Explanation: This criterion evaluates how realistic and achievable your ideas are. It's about proposing solutions or ideas that could actually work in real life.
2.How to Score Well: Make sure your ideas are practical and consider any challenges that might arise. Explain how your ideas could be implemented and what steps would be needed.

2. Video Engagement on YouTube (30%)

Watch Hours – 10%

1.Explanation: This measures the total amount of time people spend watching your video. It shows how engaging your content is and whether viewers are watching it all the way through.
2.How to Score Well: Make your video interesting and engaging from start to finish to keep viewers watching for longer periods. When you share your video with your friends and families, encourage them to watch till the end as this will affect your watch hour.

Views – 6%

1.Explanation: This counts how many times your video has been watched. More views indicate that your video is attracting a lot of attention.
2.How to Score Well: Share your video widely among friends, family, and social networks to increase the number of views.

Likes – 6%

1.Explanation: This counts how many people have liked your video. A high number of likes shows that viewers appreciate your content.
2.How to Score Well: Encourage viewers to like your video if they enjoyed it or found it helpful.

Comments – 6%

1.Explanation: This counts how many comments your video receives. Comments indicate engagement and interest in what you have to say.
2.How to Score Well: Ask viewers to leave comments, perhaps by asking questions or inviting feedback on your ideas.

Subscribers – 2%

1.Explanation: This counts how many new subscribers your video attracts to the 8teenlead Project YouTube page. More subscribers mean your video has inspired people to follow the channel for more content.
2.How to Score Well: Encourage viewers to subscribe to the channel.
